Board & Card Games Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who like playing board games, designing board games or modifying the rules of existing board games. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Many years ago, I read an article on InQuest Magazine describing rules to play Legend of the Five Rings with Magic: The Gathering cards. Years later, in college, I played LOT5R and realized it had little to with what I took from that experience, although that altered version of MTG was fun in itself.

Another alternative game I usually play with my friends only uses basic lands in a single deck and each land has a special ability. The goal is to get all 5 different basic types into play.

Are there any different card games that can be played with Magic: The Gathering cards?

Note that I'm not asking for game variations like EDH or Archenemy. I'm asking for different card games (not necessarily published) that can be played using MTG cards.

Welcome to the site! List questions are not a good fit for the StackExchange format of Q&A as there is no way to properly vote between the different answers so I have closed your question. Per our faq, "Real Questions have real answers". Thanks! – Pat Ludwig Jan 16 '12 at 16:15
Ah, yes, you're totally right, my brain must have stopped working for a moment :) I was thinking about rephrasing or changing the question to make it usable but can't really work around what you said. Sorry for the trouble :) – rahzark Jan 16 '12 at 16:35

Dixit is a card game where players all get 7 cards with only random pieces of artwork on them that are continually replenished. One player tells a story about a specific card, the others players add cards from their hand facedown that they think fit the story, they are all turned faceup, and the players try to guess which one was the storyteller's card. You can get together almost any group of non-land cards and play Dixit if you only look at the art on the cards. I personally think this is way better than the real game because the art is better and the cards are way cheaper. :D – CrazyJugglerDrummer Mar 11 '12 at 2:17
