I looked at Star Wars: Galactic Files and it says it has 350 character cards, and interesting stat on the back. When they say stats, do they mean combat abilities, like Ahsoka Tano :Jar Kai, Force push, etc?

Because the set isn't released (or even spoiled, in the vein of MtG sets) it's difficult to make any hard guarantees. By clicking some of the links on the site you linked, I find entries in the Star Wars Encyclopedia. These entries have 'stats' listed for the characters. Consider Ahsoka Tano:
There doesn't appear to be enough information to form a game around these sorts of biographical stats. It also wouldn't be in Topps' typical realm to do so. They have created and marketed card games in the past, and might even have a couple in active production right now, but their Star Wars line has always been strictly 'show and tell'. Further evidence against the idea of a game is the fact that the art is on one side and the stats are on the reverse. This would make it impossible to have any hidden zones. You would always know what cards were in your opponents hand and on the top of their deck. If they searched their deck, you would see a great number of cards. This isn't to say it would be impossible to have a game with such cards, it would just introduce challenges that would need to be addressed. It's an intriguing question nevertheless, and I stand to be proven wrong when the set is released. |
