comment Why isn't the minimum bid for a property its mortgage value?
The point is that if NOONE hash enough cash to pay the morgage cost, it can still be bought (and thus come into the game). So basically, no matter what, when someone first lands on a property, it will be bought by someone. Unless the player are being silly.

comment In Monopoly, Is it OK for a third party to make a trade with a player who is about to lose?
@user1873: yes, its a very noticeable (and odd) irregularity in the official rules as written.

@user1873: Implicit in the rules about selling properties is that you can only sell properties you own -- if you've gone bankrupt, you don't own any properties any more, and you go bankrupt as soon as someone (legally) asks you to pay a rent you can't afford.

Bankruptcy is special because it takes you out of the game. If you're not playing any more, you can't take any in game actions...

comment Bohnanza - If no one wants the cards drawn in Step 2, does the active player HAVE to plant them in Step 3?
Don't forget that you can't rip up a field with a single bean unless all your fields have single beans. Thus if the active player has two fields with 2+ beans in each and they can't get rid of either flipped bean, they may end up having to rip up both existing fields.

comment Are Bishops more valuable than Knights?
Connected to this, the fact that closed positions can develop into open positions, while open positions generally remain open, tends to give bishops a slight edge.

In the second example, why wouldn't you just use the secret chamber to avoid the attack (and the curses)?

comment Do I have to tell the other players how much money I have?
@Andry: my experience is the reverse -- closed money in PowerGrid causes AP that open money avoids. Other games may be different.

Which of course greatly slows down the game as players try to track how much money everyone has. Much simpler (and faster) just to play with open money, as all income and expenses are public and thus trackable.

comment Viable, alternative, first round role orders in 5-player Puerto Rico
@Lance, sure I do even better if they let me sell the coffee, but I'm still doing at least as well as others if I'm forced to ship it. So its not really 'dangerous' to get the coffee, it just might not give me an immediate lock on winning.
