At 10, I cut my teeth writing text adventure games in Scheme. In high school, I wrote Mandelbrot set programs on a $10 Commodore 64 from a yard sale, an HP 48 calculator, and a Java 1.0 applet. I've entered 68k machine code by hand into RAM on on a computer I built on a breadboard, and I've implemented an object oriented layer in Scheme for scripting interactive educational multimedia.

Other “network building” style games, like Hackers and Illuminati? @Lo'oris Really? You disliked it, not just disagreed with it? Because I thought that the majority of the article went towards explaining why Zarcana better fit Andy Looney's gaming preferences (random, chaotic, quirky, not too prone to AP), while Gnostica was still a fine game for people who preferred its style. As such, while I don't agree with Andy Looney's preferences here, I do think it was an interesting article on catering to different audiences with different game designs. |
