At 10, I cut my teeth writing text adventure games in Scheme. In high school, I wrote Mandelbrot set programs on a $10 Commodore 64 from a yard sale, an HP 48 calculator, and a Java 1.0 applet. I've entered 68k machine code by hand into RAM on on a computer I built on a breadboard, and I've implemented an object oriented layer in Scheme for scripting interactive educational multimedia.

See my resume on Stack Overflow careers for information on my professional background.

All code samples I post on Stack Overflow (other than those excerpted from other projects for explanatory purposes, which should be credited as so) are licensed under the WTFPLv2, or the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license that all contributions on Stack Overflow are required to be licensed under, at your choice.

comment Is castling still done in the openings in modern chess?
The Hedgehog Defense link does render properly, it's just broken in the preview (which uses a different implementation of Markdown, which apparently has a bug). You can probably remove the disclaimer about that.

comment Interesting non-zero-sum games
This isn't what I'm referring to. Regardless of what the total scores are, in Settlers there's a single winner, or you might look at it as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places; either way, the outcome of the game is fixed regardless of what the actual scores are. I'm looking for a game in which the possible outcomes of the game might depend on something in-game; such as a shared win being worth two wins, instead of half a win each, or a situation in which everyone loses and actually loses points rather than getting 0. As I said, this question may only make sense in the context of a given metagame.

comment Good sites for trading unwanted board/card games and expansions?
@LittleBobbyTables It looks like many people here are those folks who can't stand to look at BoardGameGeek. I used to use it a lot more often, but stopped hanging out there regularly after they did a redesign that made it even more cluttered (and added more ads), as well as a few other issues. Glad to see it's not just me.

Where in that thread does it say the tournament score is based on your score within the game, and not just your placement relative to the other players?
