@Stephen - you're correct, my phrasing it as "altering the cost" was faulty. You're altering the state in which the costs are paid, but the important thing to note (as you do in your answer) is that off-identity mana is never added to your pool. Colorless is, and then you are able to fulfill the cost of that ability using that colorless mana.

It's not a way around at all - it's possible to alter the cost, but you are still fulfilling 903.9. No mana of any off-identity color is ever added to your mana pool.

It does seem a little incredible that it's only been 10 days since launch.

Innistrad came out on Sep. 30th - everything before that was a prerelease order, and even then the average price was in the $30s.

comment How do I manage double-faced cards in Innistrad (MTG) tournament play?
From personal experience, it's relatively painless. While it does mean you can see when somebody grabs something when drafting, in play the whole "go grab the double-sided version of this placeholder" isn't too bad.

comment What happens to loyalty counters on a double faced Planeswalker?
it definitely is - it's implied by the lack of loyalty counter on the transformed version, but it's nice to see a ruling.
