I play a number of board and card games with varying degrees of skill, but using "algorithms" to avoid the most obvious mistakes. Depending on the game, if you can beat me, you are probably not a beginner, and perhaps a pretty good player.

I've kind of wondered about 2. If South opens 1 spade, and you're West (in the direct seat), you're going to open anyway. If you're East, you will need to overcall to direct the lead, but then you're in the balancing seat, where a different set of rules apply.

comment Should I have made a takeout double in the situation?
FWIW, the opponents' 23 points were divided something like 12 and 11, not 23-0. I think I inferred from East's pass that my partner had a few points.

comment How Is the Magic Core Set 2015 “Deck Builder's Toolkit” Different From Other Core Set Offerings With Respect To Cards?
Changed "inferior to" to "different from" in title. The former is subjective (and hence frowned on in this site); the latter is objective.

@TimLymington: I would consider this as a great answer, even though I technically did not ask the Texas transfer question. (But I did add a line to obliquely refer to it.) I like to wait a day or two before actually accepting this as the best answer.
