@Peter I have Carcassonne on my shelf, and in fact looked at the box (albeit up-side-down) to double-check the spelling in my original comment. The games I've played don't tend to get especially confrontational, and this is in a group of friends who take Settlers of Catan very seriously. One can play it confrontationally or not; my games tend to ignore the other players and focus on building features that already have my own followers.
