C# developer by trade - Gamer by passion...

On the PC I play Action RPG's (just give me D3 already!), Strategy and Hack & Slash games (just give me D3 already!)

Away from the computer I love to play board and card games with friends and family.

I've also dabbled in quite a few CCG's. My personal favorite was EVE: The Second Genesis - which I've followed from it's early beginnings to it's bitter end...

comment Reuse Quorum cards with “Give this card to another player”
Well, there are plenty of games (some CCG's for example) where it is common for a card to be controlled by different players over the course of a game.

comment More conveniently randomizing the cardboard tokens
Maybe I'll just have to play on a bigger table... ;-)

Or in short: The active player can give or receive a card.

comment Quorum cards like “Inspirational Speech” - Difference between results
There are other cards that follow the same pattern: If you're lucky you gain something and put the card out of play. otherwise discard it. I can recall "Food Rationing" to work like this too.

comment Designing a Yu-Gi-Oh! like card game - the game phases
My advice is: Don't! That game has existed for over ten years now. Trying to change the essential rules of the game is likely not going to be possible with your resources facing the sheer volume of material that would have to be considered and adapted.

comment What is a safe and accurate technique for shuffling cards?
Like Adam said: A Wash shuffle is a great shuffle opening if you have the space. After that some alternating Riffle and stripping shuffle produce a fast and thorough shuffle. Since OP is planning to go for card sleeves the Weave shuffle becomes an ideal substitute for the riffle. Just split the pile in half and push them into each other. Thanks to the sleeves your cards will easily interweave with much less effort and strain on your cards.

comment How will using counters to represent money instead of facedown cards change the game?
Totally agree with above answer. If you really don't like using face down cards as coins you can still use real coins as long as you remove the appropriate number of cards from the pool. But then you're doing stuff twice...

comment Rewards and punishments for card games
@Rob: It's not like I couldn't afford to loose the usual "buy-ins". It's that I don't see the point in it and I suspect the better players would not see the point in paying my buy-in either... At that point you might play without the money altogether.

comment Rewards and punishments for card games
@Margaret: Then I misunderstood you. Of course you'll need something to keep score. You can use chips without having to "buy" them. But some people object to that saying that the game goes bad if there's no money at stake.

comment Rewards and punishments for card games
@Margaret: Some people - like me - aren't any good with poker. So essentially you're asking them to pay money to play with them... It's not even about loosing 5 bucks - It's about the wager no longer being a wager but a fee.

comment Which alternative methods of choosing a starting player actually WORK?
@Mark: This is actually my favorite rule I've encountered. One of the very few that can change in a fixed group.

comment Any good way to add a handicap in Dominion?
@Jon & aslum: Good Point. Maybe instead of a fixed number you subtract something like 5% of the best score?

My browser crashed on that link so I looked for alternatives. I found this one for latin: de.forvo.com/word/agricola And this one for spanish: forvo.com/word/agr%C3%ADcola

comment Do you know any rules that make Pandemic's difficulty more even?
I'd probably place them in a separate spot. Just play as if there where a 4th player - just one who doesn't play on his own.

comment What factors should I consider when choosing card sleeves?
Well. You could simply mark those sleeves...

comment Is the luck factor indeed overwhelming in the Catan Card Game?
Just because you dislike the game doesn't mean everyone else does too. Some people like reacting to and handling random events while others prefer playing within a more predictable system. This may simply not be your cup of tea...

comment Pandemic and Forbidden Island - How similar are they?
Our family managed to learn Pandemic without many problems and now that we got the hang of it we've never lost on normal difficulty anymore. So based on your answer I believe we would be better served with the Pandemic expansion than Forbidden Island.

Alternatively you could argue that they'd have left the parentheses away if they wanted no distinction...
