(update) - I'm having a board game published! We'd appreciate your support on Facebook or on Twitter, as we prepare for a Kickstarter campaign in early 2014.

I hereby commit to contributing to this site without any rudeness, sarcasm, accusation, or any other unloving speech.

comment Will a developer fix a (small) broken mechanic, or should I fix it before the submission process begins?
@mattdm, Trust me: the co-designer and I are dedicating our creative energies to fixing this! With all the unknowns (for me, at least) surrounding how much a publisher can/will change, I thought it pertinent to ask if this is even something worth doing.

Thanks for your input. At what point does a (perceived) issue switch from being something minor that the developer will handle, to being something major that I need to fix beforehand? The game is fun (I have to say that, but publishers that saw it at last year's BGG-CON could see the enjoyment even before the setup/explanation was finished)... it's just that there is a chance for players to "lose the wind in their sails" in the last 1-5 minutes.

comment What's the etymology of the term “rez” in the Netrunner games?
I just played for the first time yesterday and wondered the same thing!

This is too subjective.

comment Is splitting your 3 settlements allowed?
I'm guessing he "said so" because it's the correct answer! In any case, I'm more concerned with how the OP got settlements in two separate forests. It's possible... just curious :)

comment What should you do when someone mistakenly builds the same building twice?
This can happen in Castles of Burgundy as well. There doesn't seem to be a clear-cut answer to the CoB situation, as some buildings have immediate, "Extra action"-esque effects, while other building have game end bonuses.

comment How do you make Settlers of Catan work well for 2 players? (Problems and play-tested solution described, alternatives requested)
Can't wait to try this (and commenting for personal future reference)

comment Can I decide not to use all the power of a plant in Power Grid?
Oooh. I see. You can hold double, and effectively keep double out of the market by burning some and storing some.

The behavior in the second paragraph still seems illogical. Couldn't you just hold onto the resources? Spending them will put them back in the pool for possible resupply...

Two things are clear: the rules don't explicitly mention the possibility in question; the possibility in question is tantamount to returning money to the bank - in this case, 32 electro. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!?!?

comment When I put the robber on someone in Settlers of Catan, does the resource I take HAVE to be random?
@mafutrct: I have known players to hide a card(s) horizontally behind their other cards while being robbed. Best to have them all laid facedown and a random number generator consulted : )

comment Is it legal to buy property for $1 in Monopoly when other players are in prison?
That's interesting... So the game (board, pieces, money, etc) was entirely a "knockoff"??

comment Is there any reason to buy the Ascension base game?
All the Mechana constructs are 1:1 (cost:VP), though, aren't they? Maybe it's just a preference. I've gotten to the point where I own 40+ constructs, with infinite turns. In this context, the BMII is barely on the radar :)
