I decided to backpack around the West Coast instead of going to a state university. Fortunately, I discovered a love of computers before I picked my major...I'm a late bloomer.

This isn't in the rulebook. Or is it? Where did you find out about this judgement?

comment Where can I find good tile layouts for Settlers of Catan?
I linked to you in the question, if you read the part that says "pretty decent tool". I looked up your personal site from the footer, and from there, your bitbucket. Huge props for posting the site code publicly. Your source code for generating the tiles is an exception to the "ugly php" code rule.

Also, you are considered in first place by having the most territories (and therefore, the most money). In your example, the turtle would be in third or fourth, and would never agree to flagging their place. The game would continue.

I took the idea of flagging from kdice: kdice.com/FAQ#flagging

There is a certain satisfaction in forcing the leader to pass out $5 bills left and right when surviving a two front invasion in Asia ;).

comment What should you do when someone mistakenly builds the same building twice?
As a tip, we ask that players watch their military neighbors (immediate left and right) play their cards, and double check their resources and existing buildings to keep some semblance of checks and balances in place. Or have a ref.

In 9 hours I'm going to award you some bounty. Can't imagine how you found this, what with them not showing up at all when Google searching Catan board layouts.

comment Pukachu vs. Doppleganger?
Update: we have decided to consider the Pukachu's point of view in this situation from now on: if the enemy is cloned, and you, the Pukach, hold out on the terms of the "extra level bonus", you will see two individuals attacking you. It's your call to award the bonus, and by being beaten by two fighters, the Pukachu is not inclined to award the extra level to them...

Yeah one of the main guys in our group met up with me and we came up with a couple of house rules that goes into more detail when defining "help". We opened a whole new can of worms when trying to define "asking" for help with the Kneepads of Allure. Basically, asking for help is not the same as getting help.

Im not discrediting your answer. My comments simply reflect what our group was saying at the time.

comment Pukachu vs. Doppleganger?
I was meaning to point out our discussion; does an item of value count as help? From what you've brought up, it means nothing. But then again, we didn't agree with the value-centric premise, either.

This actually brings up a point we discussed: the Pretty Ballons are marked as 'No Value', so we were wondering if that were considered a bonus. Then we saw the Dopplegengar, and it was worth 300 gold. Some really good points in your argument.

And there you have the basis of my argument. The big rock, aside from being next to useless, does serve an important purpose in distinguishing items of tangible and intrinsic value.

I can't stress how important the brush up on your math advice is. As someone who has tried my hand at inventing a combat system, I spent nearly all my time making sure there was a variety and a balance to the various elements. And, making sure isn't enough. You have to prove it.
