comment Are there any bridge systems where cards played convey deeper information in a manner similar to bidding systems?
Wow, thanks! That actually makes me a lot less wary of the sketchiness of bridge bidding systems in general.

I have never heard the "explained to the opponents" requirement for bidding, or other, systems. Are there any resources on this rule, or other Stackexchange questions on the subject?

@Affe no more illegal than communicating through weird bidding, I would expect.

comment Who has the winning hand in Texas-holdem (different full house hands)
@AndSoYouCode A lot of people are introduced to poker only by learning the ranks of the different hands. I've seen multi-page rule sets and introductions that don't get into how to differentiate between different full houses.

So many short explanations of poker hands leave out details like this.

The cards from Traders and Barbarians are available as a standalone expansion, boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/20038/catan-event-cards

comment Which bidding system is assumed by default at BBO?
That you need to ask this question simply cements my resolve that bidding systems are table talk.

not a duplicate. on-demand and short-run have some overlap, in that he could just order 50 decks of his own game from an on-demand service, but there are companies out there that do short run printing for less money than an on demand service would charge.

comment How do you play Winter Tales (in a non-gamist manner)?
If side A always plays enough cards to certainly win the story, and side B only plays enough to win 51% during the first one or two stories, side B will develop a card advantage and be able to win the game. The strategy you describe is a losing strategy, but I can see how the game would suffer if both teams followed it.

@XavierCombelle that sounds like someone mis-remembering, or mis-playing, quoridor, then.
