Focusing on short runs, and putting the question first and examples last.

comment Can you affect the Haunt roll with items, omens or other effects in Betrayal at House on the Hill?
@Styphon you can use the feather, but only for your own rolls (such as when defending against an attack). The rules around Haunt rolls are vague on who makes the roll ("Make a haunt roll", and similar, is the phrasing used everywhere), but you can't use the Angel Feather on somebody else's haunt roll.

comment In Monopoly, Is it OK for a third party to make a trade with a player who is about to lose?
The trouble is that these trades can extend the game quite a bit; Monopoly has a long history of house rules that ensure the game never ends. If somebody is in a position to be eliminated, then they should be eliminated. If player #1 is going bankrupt to player #2, but player #3 arranges a deal that prevents the bankruptcy, then player #3 can potentially steal that bankruptcy and all of #1's assets on a future turn.

comment In Monopoly, Is it OK for a third party to make a trade with a player who is about to lose?
This seems needlessly complicated. The very moment that the player starts making a deal, mortgages something, or sells a house, all players "know" that the player must not have the required cash on hand. (Besides, if the player pays up, and cash on hand is never known, then nobody ever knows if it was a bankruptcy situation or not, if at least one trade happened!)

comment How to teach strategic thinking to non-gamer players?
How would you get them to think that way? Talking to them in-game? Outside the game? Wall-of-text emails? Sending them links to Settlers of Catan strategy sites? Get a vanity printer to put your favorite strategy in a book? Stage an intervention? That opening sentence is the most direct answer you have to the question, and it's extremely vague; the rest of it is tangential details on the specific facts they need to learn about a particular game, rather than how they're going to learn those facts.

This is a strategy for how to win Settlers at Catan. How do you help other people learn how to win?

comment For Scrabble, Is there a most common phonies list anywhere?
"You're asking the wrong question" is a valid answer, as long as the answer gives sufficient proof to back it up.

This answer is about strategies for Germany to win. The question is about strategies for the Allies to use to make Germany lose.

comment Problems with learning curve and player elimination in Eclipse
This question, alas, isn't a good fit for B&CG. As it stands, this is a recommendation question, a.k.a. "give me a bunch of ideas." The highest-voted answer won't be the "best" one, it'll just be the most popular, and the answers can never be complete - there will always be new games released in the future.
