What are common contracts in Catan? This is a more precise title --- of all the house rules out there, I care only about contracts. |

Public knowledge in Settlers of Catan? For online versions, there doesn't seem to be a limit to the number of resource cards given out, so although the information isn't given out, it isn't there to be given. |

Short-version of Settlers of Catan @Dave Though, you can overcome that if you have a good eye for the resource stack sizes, even if you haven't been paying attention to rolls. If the wheat pile is at about two-thirds its original size (19), there are about 6-7 wheat cards outstanding. |

Short-version of Settlers of Catan Gotcha. To get an equivalent effect, die-rollers could simply declare certain 7's to be rerolls. For example, declaring 1+6 a reroll is equivalent to removing two cards. |

Short-version of Settlers of Catan Doesn't this give a huge advantage to player 4? In addition to getting to coordinate his city and settlement, he gets to place his city in the 4th-best spot (players 3-1 get theirs in the 6th-8th). |

Short-version of Settlers of Catan Interesting. You mention that people could use the special building phase found in the 5-6 player expansion -- is that what you personally use? |

Short-version of Settlers of Catan @Lance I hope the answers here differ from the ones at 'how to reduce slow starts,' given that many game-shortening rule changes have nothing to do with slow openings, but we'll see. |

Short-version of Settlers of Catan I don't care whether the rule changes are standard, just that you have some first-hand experience with those rule changes and can speak to their effects on play. |

Recording Settlers of Catan games? If you really record the whole public game, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out who stole what from whom, which is the only truly hidden information about resource cards. |

How has the composition of Catan's development card deck changed over time? @Apreche Interesting, I've heard them called "spiffies" with a "p," with the word applied to any game's special cards, like Monopoly's Chance and Community Chest cards. |

What's an effective Small World strategy for new players? @matthew I generally hate the kill-the-leader mechanic, but somehow keeping things completely open removes the its worst result: the endless, tiresome debate. With a spreadsheet, it is always obvious who is winning and by how much. There's just nothing to say. That said, maybe I take winning a bit too seriously. :) |
