I'm an EGF low dan, playing Go since late 2006. I was active in the community at Sensei's and the former SE-1.0 site shidogo.com, now switched my attention to BCG.SE

I'm involved in the English and German Go community in various way, most prominently I've created a platform for bad Go jokes.

The general idea is close to what I'm doing right now though.

@gold Yes. Yaku etc are not important.

comment Is there a competitive version of werewolf/mafia?
I think this idea would work, but you should ensure that the percentage of players of different teams per opposing side is equal. Else, players could attempt to lose on purpose for the greater good of their team mates.

Nice answer! Could you clarify what "rest of the round" means? (Until someone wins the current stage and the wall is rebuilt, or until its your turn again after supposedly 3 turns by the other players?)

I like to make one card stick out of the bunch (all still hidden), mumbling I wonder if he can find the ore he needs and that I do not need!

@GWLlosa That's how I see it too. I like applying little mind tricks like these. Just some of the people I played with seemed to be unused to it, and slightly annoyed ;\

@AndrewVandever: On a sidenote, some may consider this close to cheating. So make sure the people you play with do not mind being "tricked" like this.

A quick note about point 2: A major reason for not finishing the games is that it would take too long. Typically I stop around move 50-100 after 1-2 hours. But just like you said, it is better to speed up for DDK players because they make and subsequently understand their mistakes more quickly.

comment Magic Sword: Peaceful Variation or is Punishment Possible?
@shujaa: If you're going to play black 5 anyway to protect the cut, why would you exchange 3 for 4 first? Certainly better to play 1-2-5 and let white fix at 3 in gote so black gets to play on the right side.

1/4 likely refers to 9x9, I have never seen 11x11 in this context.

@Nick Yes, but wouldn't you always try 'sandbag' the other player (claiming you're weaker than you really are)?

This is very true, I never understood how handicap and betting can be used together in the same game.

@goldPseudo Absolutely, I completely missed out on thinking of a different black 5 and only considered black 7, leading me to miss shujaa's excellent move. In diagram 7, it is intentional though, it's a different situation, arrived at from the usual joseki, to highlight why simply always reverting to joseki would be too easy on white.

I think this question greatly showed up the potential of collaborative research possible on Board and Card Games. Each answer highlights a few important aspects, and taking all of them into account, we get a very decent solution to the problem. :)

Regarding your first diagram with the Chinese fuseki: I would be reluctant to say that this is necessarily bad for white. Rather, I would consider the pincer at R12 almost a mistake, because in your sequence white gets an easy life in the corner. The right side is not bad for black, but it looks a bit easy to make overconcentrated (I'd try shoulder hit at Q8). Instead of the pincer, I would rather try black 8 or black 6, trying to enlarge the corner while keeping the white stone from getting an easy base. However, I guess it's playable and I could not confidently call it bad for either player.

@shujaa (2) Oh. Oooh... excellent idea. Haha, I tend to miss obvious shapes, as you can see :) No, please keep your answer, there is no need to include everything in one answer.
