I agree on the "unanswerable" angle, but thanks for answering what I was trying to ask, which is about why the game design favors a lower-scoring exception to the more general "score every subset of the hand independently" rule.

@Adam If a 4-card flush scores 4, then with 5 there are 5 ways to remove a card and still have a 4-card flush.
