What are the standard time settings in chess Game times have changed a lot since the rise of computers, as a formerly active chess player I'm quite interested in what people who are more current in playing tournament chess write. Historically at the highest levels you might have games that adjourned after a time control was met - something which today's computers no longer allow. |

Quick engaging card games that can be learned quickly by a new group The Great Dalmuti is one of my favorite party games - friends still talk about epic games held at parties years ago. The fun is that you can play to "win" (i.e. become the great dalmuti) but you can also play to just rank a bit higher than last tine and/or to rank higher than your friend/boyfriend/husband/wife/partner (playing with a bunch of couples emphasizes this element). The President version of the game can be played with multiple decks to accomodate very large groups. |

General advice for maximizing fun playing multiple games of Dominion as I noted playing with 3 or 4 people isn't really an option for us - we play at home, after work when it is just the two of us. Yes, playing Dominion with multiple players is a different game but it isn't one we get to play that way very often. We have played some of the suggested combinations but frankly we enjoy the aspect of the game of trying to figure out on the fly cards that will work well together - we enjoy the randomness. |

General advice for maximizing fun playing multiple games of Dominion Yes. Hence my question. We do like playing this way to get to see all of the cards but also realize that it isn't the only way we might play. We do however enjoy the variation between games - it is good to alternate strategies and to try different approaches. |

General advice for maximizing fun playing multiple games of Dominion hmm I hadn't thought about this twist - perhaps we'll try keeping any card we either didn't buy or only bought one of (i.e. both players didn't try playing with it). |

General advice for maximizing fun playing multiple games of Dominion thanks - we might experiment with something like this to get a mix of chosen & random cards - definitely a good alternative approach we'll try. |

Comparisons Betwen Deck-Building Games Should a non-card but similar in gameplay game like Puzzle Strike also be considered as part of this question? I've heard it referred to as a deck building game - except with chips in place of cards for easier shuffling/randomization - but I haven't yet picked up a copy and played it |

How Would I Get A Modern Diplomacy -“Like” Game Produced? for just a few random examples see this blog that covers among other topics board game patents - purplepawn.com/2011/01/january-board-and-card-game-patents-3 - design patents & patents on methods can cover a lot of things. That said, it does require something which is "nonobvious" and new so simply updating Diplomacy with different flavor text probably doesn't qualify. |

How Would I Get A Modern Diplomacy -“Like” Game Produced? actually yes you can indeed patent a board game and quite a few board games (and their pieces, components etc) are protected by patents. (years ago in college I seriously pursued patenting a board game design and probably still could as I haven't yet seen an example of the mechanics and construction I was proposing) |
