Modern is a Constructed tournament format for Magic: the Gathering. Players construct decks with a minimum of 60 cards from sets starting with Eight Edition (corresponding to the card face update) and going to the present day, with the exception of a banned list.
It was officially introduced in 2011, based on the "Overextended" fan format. Currently, one of the three yearly Pro Tour events is Modern.
Modern is a non-rotating format. Unlike Legacy and Vintage, no Modern cards are on the reserve list.
